Thank you for visiting IHI Bridge Division's website.
IHI has been the pioneer of Japan's bridge industry throughout its 120-year
history, beginning in 1887 at Yokohama with the Miyako-bashi bridge. Now
our field of activities is not only limited to Japan, but we are also the
worldwide leader in the steel bridge construction industry. Despite our
origins in steel bridge manufacturing, we have now widened our area of
expertise and we act as a general contractor for bridges. We boast a wide
range of services, from research & development, design, manufacturing,
procurement and construction. To date, IHI has undertaken many EPC contracts
even including civil works and road construction.
The first overseas bridge project for us was in New Zealand on the Auckland Harbor Bridge Extension (1966). Since then, we have undertaken many bridge projects, which can be seen in many places around the world, such as Turkey, Zaire, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Italy etc., and especially in the U.S.A. where we have constructed over 30 bridges to date.
Our business field is not limited to the construction of new bridges. Realising that proper maintenance of social assets will come to be more and more important in a mature society, in 1987 we established a subsidiary for the maintenance works of bridges, a first in the Japanese bridge industry. In 1999, we extended our field of activity with an alliance with a PC (Pre-stressed Concrete) company, which was also a first for Japanese steel bridge contractors.
Now, with our experience, technology and diversity, we strive to provide
and maintain the bridges - an indispensable social asset - in a high quality,
safe and cost efficient manner. Our corporate slogan is, "To contribute
to the development of society through technology". We are striving
to achieve this aim.
It is our utmost pleasure that many people take interest in understanding our bridge business. Thank you for visiting our website.
