Minato Bridge, Osaka, Japan
Minato Bridge, Osaka, Japan (1974)

The Truss structure is made of chords assembled in triangles, and as a total structure, it can withstand heavy loads. The chords which make up a truss bridge are stressed from tension and compression forces, while the bending moment is negligible. Due to its structural characteristics, a Truss bridge can span a longer distance than normal girder bridges.

IHI has constructed several large scale Truss bridges. A good example is the longest truss bridge in Japan, the Minato Bridge in Osaka.

The sub-categories of truss type bridges include Parallel Chord Warren Truss, Parallel Chord Warren Truss with Vertical member, Curved Chord Warren Truss with Vertical member, and so on.
