Application of LNG Receiving Terminal

Application of LNG Receiving Terminal LNG receiving terminal rough flow

LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) is used for city gas, thermal power generation, industrial gas and other applications.
LNG is transported by LNG tanker for storage in LNG tanks at LNG receiving terminals.
The boiling point of LNG is -164℃. Cryogenic boil off gas (BOG) is generated continually in the LNG tank by outside heat. To keep the LNG tank pressure within a constant value, the boil off gas should be suctioned.
The LNG BOG compressor, operated under cryogenic condition, is used to suction boil off gas generated in the LNG tank. The suctioned gas is fed to a re-liquefier or used as fuel by city gas or for thermal power generation.
IHI holds the dominant market share of LNG BOG compressors, with over 95% of the domestic market and over 70% of the international market. The IHI LNG BOG compressor is the world's most-used compressor.
When LNG is transferred from LNG tanker to LNG tank on the ground, the tank pressure of LNG tanker is changed. To adjust this pressure change, some boil off gas generated in the LNG tank on the ground is returned to the LNG tanker. A return gas blower compressor is used for this purpose, and the IHI turbo compressor (VGP series) is widely used.
The return gas blower is also operated under cryogenic conditions. Only IHI manufactures the return gas blower in Japan.
Furthermore, only IHI is able to manufacture both LNG BOG compressors and return gas blowers.

We also engineer and manufacture reciprocating compressors used for other processes. Send us your inquiries regarding compressors using the inquiry form.
