LNG Boil off Gas(BOG) Compressor
IHI is one of the top manufacturers of LNG BOG compressors.
LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas, predominantly methane) is natural gas from oil field and gas field which has been refined and condensed. Approximately -162℃ LNG is carried by LNG tanker, unloaded and stored in cryogenic tank at LNG receiving terminals.
In LNG storage tank, ultra low temperature of -162℃ boil off gas (BOG) is continuously generated from LNG liquid level due to externally applying heat and fluctuations to that level. Thus, the storage tank internal pressure is increased by boil off gas continuous generated. To keep the tank pressure in designated value, boil off gas has to be pumped out from the storage tank. LNG Boil off Gas (BOG) compressor is operated to achieve the function of this purpose, suctions directly at low temperature and almost atmospheric pressure and pressurizes to require condition. Pressurized boil off gas by compressor discharges for re-condenser to return the storage tank, for boiler or gas turbine as fuel to generate electric power, for pipeline to send natural gas and other use.
IHI also designed compressors for natural gas liquefying terminal, LNG delivering terminal and etc.
IHI has been continuing to design and fabricate cryogenic LNG BOG compressors after delivering the first cryogenic LNG BOG compressor in the world. Since then, IHI has the record of delivering about 200 units of LNG BOG compressors and still has predominant share. IHI continues to deliver world top level LNG BOG compressors.
Features of IHI LNG BOG compressor
- Direct suction of cryogenic gas
- There is no need for preheating of low temperature gas. Compressor is smaller in size, compare to normal temperature compressor for handling same amount of gas.
- High operability
- Cool down operation during compressor startup is not required. Compressor is able to operate at full load or partial load immediately after compressor startup.
- Easy operation
- With installation of necessary instruments, one touch auto startup/shutdown is possible. Remote control operation and auto startup/shutdown by DDC (Direct Digital Control) is also possible. Operation of compressor is monitored by monitoring devices and protective devices for safe operation.
- Fluctuation of operating condition is considered
- Fluctuation of operating condition i.e. amount of BOG generation, BOG temperature, BOG composition during unloading or storage of gas, continuous or intermittent operation of compressors, is considered for optimum quality and efficiency of compressors.
- Easy maintenance
- Horizontal opposed type compressor has low height and makes maintenance and inspection easy. Mechanical parts are designed for long period of continuous operation with long lifespan and manufactured under strict quality management.
