Introduction

IHI Corporation, a firm founded in 1853 originally in the name of Ishikawajima Shipyard, started manufacturing of steam generators(boilers) around the beginning of the 20th century. In the field of boilers, IHI first experienced in marine boilers, and IHI's activities were extended to stationary land boilers for the purpose of industrial use. Through a license agreement concluded between IHI and Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation,U.S.A. for stationary and marine water tube boiler, IHI has now broad capabilities in designing, manufacturing and constructing a variety of boilers ranging from small packaged boilers with a capacity of 130kg/h to super-critical pressure boilers having a steam generating capacity of over 3,000t/h for 1,050MW unit of thermal power plants. IHI's boiler design is very flexible to various kinds of fuel application such as coal, gas, oil, refuse, orimulsion, etc.
Especially, IHI has been making a significant contribution to stable supply of electricity through engineering, procurement and construction of thermal power plants in Japan and overseas, considering IHI's corporate philosophy "Contributing to the development of society through technology".
