IHI to set up a new Commercial Aero Engine maintenance base in Tsurugashima-City, Saitama Prefecture

IHI Corporation (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; President: Tsugio Mitsuoka; “IHI”) have signed a land sales contract with Saitama prefecture, to set up a new production facility in Tsurugashima-City, Saitama Prefecture.  In order to correspond with growing demand for engine maintenance, IHI have decided to set up a new Commercial Aero Engine maintenance shop, hereinafter called “new shop”, which is planned to commence operation by the end of 2019.  IHI`s investment on production facility, will be for the first time in 21 years.  Last investment was to set up a Works in Soma on 1998. 

IHI participate as a major partner in various international development programs for commercial engines in Aero Engine business which is one of the main business of IHI.  IHI performs its business in engine`s total life cycle, which is from design, development, production to maintenance.  In order to correspond with the strong air passenger growth especially in Asia, IHI has been increasing its capacity by process improvement and investment to existing facility.  IHI foresee increasing demand of engine maintenance, backed by the growth in number of engine program it participates, has decided to build a new shop. 

Aero engine are comprised by three hundred thousand over sophisticated parts.  In order to provide aircraft safety and comfort travel, rigorous quality control standards and 20 over years of life cycle support are required.  IHI performs engine maintenance from head to tail, i.e. dis assembly, cleaning, inspection, component repair, assembly and testing at its Mizuho Aero-Engine Works (Mizuho-Machi, Nishitama-Gun, Tokyo).  Backed by IHI`s high standard repair capability, it is approved by various airworthiness authorities, which is more than 19 over countries worldwide.

At new shop, not only it will inherit IHI`s high end production system, it will also introduce new technologies, such as IoT and AI.  By the synergy of joint operation together with Mizuho Works, new shop plans to establish its production system with standard of world class efficiency and consistency.  Located near to the highway, it has very good access to the airport.  This enables IHI to provide short time delivery and high quality engine MRO services to worldwide airline customers.

Adding new shop to its production system, IHI paves the way to achieve world leading maintenance capability.  By accommodating worldwide demand, IHI plans to contribute to local economy growth and to provide aircraft safety and sound and comfort travel.
