Blast furnaces are the symbols of steel mills. The height of large blast furnace plants with daily output of 10,000 tons is over 100m. Since 1941, IHI has built and relined over 90 blast furnace plants, which are now playing important roles not only in Japan but also in various countries such as Australia, Korea, Brazil, and Taiwan. IHI has also supplied over 25 bell-less top charging systems for feeding raw materials into these blast furnaces.

DC electric arc furnace
Electric arc furnaces produce steel, using scrap as raw material and have been supplied worldwide. A new furnace which significantly increases productivity by simultaneous preheating and feeding of raw material has been developed and available.
The strip caster is a revolutionary facility which can directly produce thin carbon steel sheets thinner than 2 mm by running molten steel through twin cooling rolls. Compared to the conventional thin steel sheet mill, because the milling process is much more less, the CO2 emission is 1/5, and the energy consumption is 1/9, making it an environment friendly facility. It is able to use low-grade scrap molten steel, making it also a resource friendly facility.
The stepping cylinder is a positioning cylinder with a built-in mechanical feedback function, and it controls precisely the speed and the position by electrical pulse signals.
