Caissons are structures installed and arranged in coastal regions as part of harbor and fishing port facilities to serve as breakwaters, quays and seawalls.
This hybrid structure, which is made from steel plates and concrete, is characterized by its high strength and durability as well as the ability to be applied to complex shapes.
IHI has a strong delivery track record due to our ability to manufacture long/big caissons in our plant and shorten manufacturing periods.
Skew plate breakwater
This is a deep-water, footed, detached breakwater that was developed with the Public Works Research Institute to prevent coastal erosion and for multipurpose utilization of coastal areas.
These are placed offshore to reduce or break waves. A design that is backed by maritime structural technology provides stable performance. These breakwaters provide an economical and easy-to-construct breakwater for deep water and weak seabed areas. These are environmentally friendly structures that do not disturb the sea currents.
Regardless of the water depth, the distance between the water surface and the crown remains constant. Therefore, there will be no height gap between ships and the quay. Also, since the pier is moored with posts, it sways very little.
These are one element (box) in constructing submarine tunnels that are divided into sizes that will not impair towing and sinking. There are different types, such as hybrid steel and concrete caissons, steel-reinforced caissons, etc. (The photograph shows a steel and concrete caisson)
IHI produces steel-concrete composite floor system consisting of bottom steel plates, channel steel reinforcements, and stud dowels.
This floor system can flexibly deal with longer spans. Since the bottom steel plate serves as the framework, it excels in terms of safety and construction capability and helps shorten the construction period.

The sound-absorbing panels for the underside of elevated roads were developed to limit the increase of reflection noise from the underside of elevated roads, while the sound isolating boards were developed to reduce noise at construction sites.

Temporary assembling bridge “TRIAS”
“TRIAS” is the all-purpose temporary assembling bridges that provides excellent solution when swift and cost-effective construction is required. As emergency bridges, they can be easily constructed on any site conditions within a short time and have sufficient capacity for heavy vehicles.
They come in “plate girder” and “truss” types and can be used for various purposes, including disaster recovery, scaffold board for construction and so on.
