Construction of Tokyo Station, which led Japan to modernization.
Construction of Tokyo Station, which led Japan to modernization.
Completed in 1911, Tokyo Station was built to meet the need for a station worthy of being the gateway to modern Japan. Ishikawajima Shipyard manufactured more than 3000 tons of steel frames for its construction. In doing so, IHI was the first company to successfully take on the challenge of developing a more efficient method for erecting and performing steel frame construction using cranes. A century later IHI cranes are the world's largest and capable of scaling buildings under their own power.
From the Edo era to the end of the war, the IHI product group has supported Japan's changing society.
