Linear Motor Active Mass Damper

Features

We IHI group is based on high technique, successfully managed to develop a Full-active Mass Damper adding a lot of features. We adopted a linear motor for drive gear realizing high thrust and high speed which corresponds the long strokes in high-rise buildings. Moreover, the damper itself can be parceled that can be able to installed into existing buildings.

Energy Recovery System

This system reuses the electrical energy discarded during driving of the Active Mass Damper (AMD). Re-using the energy generated during deceleration of the additional mass attached to the active mass damper reduces the power capacity needed to drive the AMD to between 1/3 and 1/5 the conventional requirement. The energy consumption is reduced to at least half the conventional value.

Energy Recovery System

Features

  • In this system, the inverter DC intermediate circuit capacitance in the AMD electrical circuit is a large electrical double layer capacitor (EDLC). This capacitor accumulates power during energy recovery and supplies power when the system is driven.
  • The power system supply capacity needed to drive the AMD can be reduced to between 1/3 and 1/5 the conventional requirement.
  • The system uses an environmentally friendly electrical double layer capacitor to store energy.
  • The system was designed for greater safety than a lead-acid battery system during disposal or in the event of destruction.

Ship Roll Stabilizers

In a passive system, moving mass makes natural pendulum motions on the arc-shaped rails when the ship rolls. This generates forces opposing the wave forces to reduce the roll of the ship. In an active system, the weight is accurately controlled by electric motors according to information on lateral rolling detected by sensors to reduce the roll of the ship. The hybrid system combines the features of the pendulum principle (passive system) and electric motor control (active system) to provide excellent roll control for low power expenditure.
