Principle behind ANC
Active noise control is a technology which cancels out sound with sound. ANC emits superimposed sound waves of the reverse polarity to reduce the waves coming from the noise source.
SNB Structure
The SNB includes control sound speakers on top of the sound barrier, a sensor microphone near the noise source, a control point microphone in the control area and other control unit parts.
- Sensor microphone: Captures sound from the noise source.
- Control unit: Uses the signal from the sensor microphone to create a signal of reverse polarity to cancel the noise and transmits the new signal to an amplifier. It also uses the signal from a control point microphone to adjust the reverse polarity signal to minimize noise in the control area.
- Control point microphone: Monitors noise in the control area.
- Control sound source speakers: Arranged lined along the top of the sound barrier at a one-meter pitch (standard setting). Run by the amplifier, these emit sound waves of reverse polarity to the noise to be canceled in the same direction as the noise.
SNB Effect
An example of the noise control effects of SNB is given below (measurements from actual unit in control position). Low frequency noises up to about 250 Hz were reduced to a maximum 9 decibels (band pressure level).
