Lean-Burn Premix Burner

About Lean-Burn Premix Burner

In a gas turbine, fuel such as natural gas or kerosene is combusted at a combustion chamber, which generates a high-temperature combustion gas. The chemical energy of the fuel is converted into mechanical dynamic energy though the process that the fuel is combusted at the combustion chamber and the combustion gas is generated. The NOx are generated at this combustion process of the fuel. According conventional methods, water or steam is injected into the burner and the temperature of local high temperature part is decreased. Water injection or steam injection reduces the amount of NOx generated at combustion process, but it reduces thermal efficiency as a result. This method also consumes a large mount of water or steam.
On the other hand, the lean-burn premixed combustion method does not need to consume water and steam. This method enables to inhibit the generation of the NOx with the lean-burn combustion technology without the consumption of water and steam, and it does not reduce the thermal efficiency. IHI developed the new combustor applied with lean-burn combustion technology, and realized the low-emission and high efficient gas turbine.
