SOVR TYPE

(Stationary Once-Through Variable Pressure Reheat Type Boiler)

SOVR type boiler is the unit capable of rapid start-up and extremely low load operation keeping high efficiency to meet the prospective demand of large capacity boilers for electric power plants under cycling load. IHI has established a manufacting system of SOVR type boiler having a capacity of 350,000 KW to over 1,000,000 KW and firing various fuels. Features of the boiler design are as follows.

  1. To meet variable pressure operation, helically wound tube circuitry is utilized in the lower furnace. Such an arrangement is called Benson type evaporator.
  2. A boiler water recircurating system is applied in order to keep a minimum water flow through the furnace during start-up.
The minimum stable load up to 15% MCR can be obtained without any heat loss through the bypass system.
The start-up bypass system is simplifed and composed of small capacity H.P. turbine bypass and superheater bypass lines.
