Based on the Unified Interpretation, SC249, of IACS (International Association of Classification Societies), asbestos-free declarations are required for inspections conducted by classification societies. This requirement was implemented on July 1, 2012 and it is applied to equipment, parts that replaced or installed in both new ships and ships in service whose periodical surveys are scheduled after that date.
