First shipment of The 28AHX, an environmentally friendly medium-speed marine engine compliant with IMO NOx Tier II to the Market.
NIIGATA Power Systems Co., Ltd., (NPS) shipped two units of the 6MG28AHX
(output: 2,070 kW) engine, an environmentally friendly medium-speed
diesel engine featuring top class high fuel efficiency and
lightest-weight design. The engine is a proprietary medium-speed marine
engine developed by NPS in September 2008 and compliant with IMO NOx
Tier II.
The engines were ordered by Watanabe Ship Building Co., Ltd., (Nagasaki
City, Nagasaki Prefecture) and will be installed on board 699-ton class
mixed passenger and cargo ships owned by Okinawa-ken Rito Kaiun Shinko
(Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture) and operated by Daito Kaiun Co., Ltd.,
(Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture) in regular service between Okinawa and
the Minami and Kita-Daito Islands.
The 28AHX engine adopted NOx emission reduction technologies, such as
optimization of the fuel injection system , a supercharging system and
the Miller-cycle that reduces NOx by 30% compared to conventional
products. Furthermore, these technologies enabled improvement of fuel
consumption by about 2% at rated output and more at lower load from
conventional products, which is difficult to achieve while reducing NOx
emissions, hence fuel efficiency was enhanced to top-class levels. In
addition, the lightest class engine in the world makes it advantageous
in the market.
The specifications of the 28AHX include a cylinder bore of 280 mm, a
cylinder stroke of 390 mm, 6 to 9 cylinders, an output range of 2,070 to
3,330 kW, and a weight of 18 to 30 tons. The 28AHX is designed to
provide an output of up to 3,300 kW, enabling a wide range of
applications for coastal ships and work vessels with a good combination
of Niigata Z-peller azimuth thrusters. This engine is also improved low
load performance and transient performance that are required for the
above applications.
By placing the 28AHX as a strategic model, NPS is committed to actively
engaging in sales campaigns and expecting more than 100 engines order a
year.
