IHI's Electric Turbocharger ("ETC") is responsible for supplying oxygen (compressed air), which is an important element in the fuel cell system installed in fuel cell vehicles (FCVs). IHI has been developing and commercializing air chargers for fuel cell systems for about 20 years, including those for FCVs and stationary systems. In 2018, IHI was the first in the industry to commercialize an ETC equipped with a turbine for fuel cell systems, which was installed in Mercedes Benz GLC F-CELL.
