Please tell us about your responsibilities and missions.

We mainly conduct performance and durability tests of turbochargers for customers and newly developed turbochargers under various conditions and environments, such as turbine temperatures exceeding 1,000℃ and impeller tip speeds exceeding 1.8 times the speed of sound. In recent years, I also carry out performance and durability tests on turbochargers developed for fuel cell vehicles (FCVs).
In performance tests, if the accuracy of temperature, pressure, flow rate, etc. being measured deviate even slightly from the ideal conditions, the performance evaluation may differ significantly, so I seek always to implement accurate tests by paying attention to various aspects like the test environment, the condition of the testing equipment and insulation conditions.

What do you like about IHI's Turbocharger and why?

My favorite is that our turbochargers have succeded in F1 races, the pinnacle of motorsports.
IHI's turbocharger technology was used to boost the McLaren Honda cars driven by Mr. Ayrton Senna and Mr. Alain Prost, who won 15 out of 16 races. This technology has been inherited by a variety of turbochargers and continues to be installed in from micro cars to large trucks. I am also proud that I contributed so much to Honda's reentering F1 race, and keep supporting sports cars such as the GT-R and Ferrari even now.

Please tell us what you are impressed with (work, workplace, people, etc.).

I was involved in the development of the turbocharger when Honda reentered into F1 race. The size and specifications is very different from those of the turbochargers I had usually handled, and I remember struggling with the assembly and installation of the equipment, and being nervous and thrilled as I measured the output of the equipment, which I had never experienced before during testing. I also felt a sense of elation thinking of handling something special during the tests using actual F1 car parts. When the machine achieved good results in races, it increase my motivation and I thought to myself, "Okay! Let's keep working hard!"
