IHI Corporation is shipping "Bottom Head" of Containment Vessel to CB&I as the first product for US AP1000(TM) project on July, 25, 2010.
It becomes about 30 years since IHI shipping nuclear power generation machinery for U.S. last since 1980.
IHI have been awarded this contract from CB&I on January, 2009.
Our scope of work under this contract is to supply detailed engineering, procurement and fabricated materials as part of an overall contract Westinghouse Electric Company awarded CB&I to design, supply and construct two containment vessels for a U.S. utility customer.
IHI and CB&I are working in close collaboration on a total of four containment vessels for new AP1000(TM) nuclear power plants in the U.S.

The materials for the containment vessels are in production at IHI Yokohama No.1 works in Yokohama, Japan.
Those products will be shipped to CB&I at a U.S. port of entry in series.
The two steel containment vessels, each more than 40 meters in diameter, over 66 meters high, and approximately 4,000 tons in weight, are an important component of Westinghouse AP1000(TM) advanced PWR type nuclear power plants at Vogtle Electric Generating Plant site of Georgia Power, which is owned by Southern Corporation.

Due to its considerable size mentioned above, we will deliver them with 5 shipments per unit as separate plate component.

Currently, many new nuclear power plant units have been announced not only in the USA, but also Asia and Europe. IHI is capitalizing on its extensive experience to aggressively pursue new nuclear projects both in the U.S. market and internationally for supply various equipment for these new nuclear power plants.
