Malaysia / Completed Demonstration of Abnormality Sign Detection in Coal Fired Power Plant Boiler due to Heavy Ash Accumulation
~Improving functionality of power plant through remote monitoring service ~

IHI Corporation (HQ : Tokyo, Japan, CEO : Tsugio Mitsuoka, hereafter referred to as “IHI”), in collaboration with TNB JANAMANJUNG SDN. BHD (hereafter referred to as “TNBJ”), a subsidiary company of Malaysian utility Tenaga Nasional Berhad, completed remote monitoring service demonstration utilizing IoT technology at the Manjung Coal Fired Power Station, which is owned by TNBJ.

This demonstration focused on abnormality diagnosis system developed by IHI as a preventive measure for potential operational failure and for real time monitoring of the power station operation.

With the cooperation of TNBJ, IHI analyzed the daily operational data and past incident of the Manjung Coal Fired Power Station (Unit 1~3, 700MW×3Units) in order to program the abnormality sign detection of heavy ash accumulation (*). This program development contributes to reducing the overall risk of unplanned outage of the power station due to unexpected operational occurrences. IHI will continue to enhance its remote monitoring services by expanding the range of inspections.

IHI has extensive track records in both supply and maintenance of coal-fired power generation boilers, and will utilize its broad experience in providing life cycle business solution to the global market. IHI will continue to reduce the environmental impact and ensure stable electricity supply through high efficient and environment friendly equipment and systems in parallel to adequate maintenance service as a beginning to the life cycle business solutions.

(*)  The accumulation of fly ash inside the boiler causes uneven flow of combustion gas, results in damage of internal components.
