Elba Liquefaction Project : Commercial Operation of the All Units Commenced at the Elba Island Liquefaction Facility
IHI Corporation (TSE:7013) is pleased to announce that commercial operation of the Final Unit of the Elba Liquefaction Project (“Project”) commenced on August 26, 2020.
For IHI E&C International Corporation (“IHI E&C”), a Houston based, wholly owned subsidiary of IHI Corporation, and the EPC Contractor for the Project since its award in 2016, this is a historic moment. On August 26, 2020, IHI E&C handed over the last of 10 Movable Modular Liquefaction Units to Elba Liquefaction Company, L.L.C. (“ELC”) with exceptional safety performance throughout the Project. This Project also put into service new Shell proprietary technology for modular liquefaction units for the first time in North America. With the handover of the Final Unit, ELC is now engaged in full commercial operation of the Elba Island Liquefaction Facility which has a total capacity of approximately 2.5 million tons per year of LNG for export.
This Project modified the existing Elba Island Liquefaction Facility, which is located at Elba Island near Savannah, Georgia, from a LNG import terminal to a bi－directional import/export facility by adding 10 Movable Modular Liquefaction System (MMLS) trains that utilize Shell proprietary technology.
