- DB Bahnbau Group and IHI Corporation offer new control and safety technology for railway crossings
- The new technology monitors the area closed by the barriers in three dimensions
- Testing of the new technology is in progress at three locations

The DB Bahnbau Gruppe and the Japanese heavy industry manufacturer IHI Corporation announce their cooperation. Both partners will sign a contract at InnoTrans, the leading international trade fair for transport technology, on 20 September 2022 at the DB Bahnbau Gruppe booth, agreeing on the planning, delivery, installation and after-sales service of control and safety technology for level crossings. The 3DLR technology ensures that there are no objects in the danger zone when the barriers are closed.

Markus Egerer, Chairman of the DB Bahnbau Group / Managing Director Technology: "With the innovative technology from IHI and the expertise of the DB Bahnbau Gruppe in the planning and construction of control and safety systems, we are bringing the latest technology to the strong rail."

Yutaka Hisamitsu, General Manager, Railway Safety Sensing Solutions Department "IHI is one of the leading companies for track vacancy detection devices. IHI has already supplied over 2,800 devices in Europe and Japan. In Germany, we are currently seeking approval. Through DB Bahnbau Gruppe's nationwide network, we continue to make strong inroads into the market.

The 3DLR technology is mounted on a special mast at the railway crossing and consists of a laser head (scanner) and a controller. With a detection range of 35 metres and a viewing angle of 60 degrees horizontally and 30 degrees vertically, the scanner measures objects three-dimensionally. The data obtained is transmitted to the controller, which detects whether there are any obstacles between the barriers. In the event of an obstacle or a defect, the device sends a signal to the railway crossing control.
