RECIPROCATING COMPRESSORS(PROCESS GAS)

Start-up System for LNG BOG Compressors

IHI LNG BOG Compressor design point is set to ultra-low temperatures (in the vicinity of -160 degC/-256degF). However, during start-up of a compressor, suction gas can warm up to ambient temperatures due to gas which stagnates in piping etc..
Considering the above, start-up method is particularly of great significance for LNG BOG compressors. Instead of the conventional start-up method, such as cool-down operation with by-pass line or blow-off operation, we recommend the following options.

QUICK START-UP (IHI STANDARD)

  • Pressurized gas is sent out immediately.
  • Suction desuperheater and Suction K.O Drum are required. Recycle line is not required.
  • Approx. 15 minutes of 100% load operation is required until suction gas temperature is cooled down to change capacity step.

ADVANCED QUICK START-UP SYSTEM (SPECIAL OPTION)

  • Pressurized gas is sent out immediately.
  • Suction desuperheater and recycle line are not required.
  • Compressor can start up in any capacity step without upper limitation of gas temperature practically.

*NOTE: Both water and air is applicable for cooling medium.
KO drum is recommended if a large amount of mist comes from LNG carrier or elsewhere.
