Company History

1948 License Agreement was executed between Harima Shipyard Co., Ltd., one of the former bodies of IHI and Sulzer Brothers, Ltd., Switzerland (present Winterthur Gas & Diesel Ltd. ).
1957 License Agreement was executed between Harima Shipyard Co., Ltd. and BBC Co., Ltd, Switzerland.
1960 Ishikawajima Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. and Harima Shipyard Co., Ltd. merged to form IHI
1964 License Agreement was executed between IHI and S.E.M.T. Pielstick (present MAN Diesel & Turbo)
1980 Certification was given by Japanese Government for manufacturing shop of internal combustion engines.
1988 Diesel United, Ltd. (DU) was established by merger of Diesel Engines Divisions of IHI and SHI.
1989 Diesel United Technical Service Co., Ltd. (DUS) established to enhance post delivery support
1993 DUS was merged into DU to unify diesel engine businesses.
First 7RTA84T diesel engine was delivered.
DU obtained certification for ISO 9001 for quality assurance and management concerning sales, design and development, production and servicing of reciprocating internal combustion engines.
2000 Total production of 10 million horsepower was achieved after the establishment of DU
2003 First 7RT-flex58TB diesel engine was delivered.
2004 First 12RT-flex96C diesel engine was delivered.
DU obtained certification for ISO 14001 for environmental system.
2005 First RT-flex50 diesel engine was delivered.
2006 Naming of 2-stroke engines changed from "DU-SULZER" to "DU-WÄRTSILÄ".
2007 DU & Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. agreed to business tie-up in the shipping diesel engine.
2008 We celebrated the 20th anniversary DU establishment.
2009 HAM (Humid Air Motor) System for diesel engines of a power plant began the operation.
DU released TF-Detector (Trace-of-Ferrous-powder Detector).
2011 DU launched the first oversea office in Singapore (DUCS).
DU released LC-A (LifeCycle Administrator).
2012 DU formed a business tie-up with Rong An and SOMEC.
2013 World's first RT-flex58T-D ER-3 engine was delivered.
2015 W6X72DF test engine was installed in Aioi Works.
2016 Naming of 2-stroke engines changed from "DU-WÄRTSILÄ" to "DU-WIN GD".
2019 IHI Group's Power Systems Business was integrated to form IHI Power Systems Co.,Ltd.
