Rio Tinto Group implemented 3 units of IHI LM6000PC gas turbine power generation (total output: 120 MW) installed at locations in Western Australia for use as the main power supply for company-held iron-ore mining areas and ports for exporting.

LM6000PC Power Generation System

Rio Tinto Group, an Australia-based mining and metals corporation, implemented 3 units of IHI LM6000PC power generation installed at locations in Western Australia to supply electricity power for iron-ore mining operations.
These power generation units were implemented by Rio Tinto Group to correspond to aging of the existing thermal power generation facilities, recent increasing demand for iron-ore materials, and increasing awareness of environmental issues related to climate change affecting the world.
LM6000PC model was selected because our customer had evaluated the following LM6000PC advantage points:
- hight output and high efficiency used as simple cycle (output per unit: 40 MW, efficiency: 40%)
- maintainance flexibility of gas turbine module caused by aero-derivative gas turbine structure
- operation flexibility at partial load to correspond to electricity demand
The power output decrease was expected because the these LM6000PC gas turbine power plants ware planned to be located in the area with high temperature so that more power consumption was needed for compression of high temperature intake air.
The output of the gas turbine in this unit was expected to be lower than normal at this location due to the temperatures of the intake air being high due to the unit being installed in an area with high temperatures.
Thus, the intake air cooler system utilizing water evaporation (Evaporative Cooler) and the SPRINTTM SYSTEM were implemented at LM6000PC power generation units in order to prevent power output decreasing.
Also, IHI original control system "CSI-III" was installed at gas turbine power plant contorl system. High-performance LM6000PC gas turbine engine and "CSI-III" allow to realize reliable and stable power generation.

IHI offered 3 units of LM6000 gas turbine power generation to Sahacogen (Chonburi) Public Company Limited.
Sahacogen Power Plants, located at Saha Group Industrial Park, Sriracha, Thailand, were developed by Sahacogen (Chonburi) Public Company Limited, which is one of the most famous Small Power Producer (SPP) in Thailand that produces electricity and steam for Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and its industrial park tenants.
The power plants, which have its generation capacity of 170MW and 50 tons / hour of steam in total, are combined cycle plants. They are comprised of 3 x LM6000PC Gas Turbine, 3 x HRSG, 1 x 10MW GT and 1 x extraction condensing steam turbine.
IHI delivered 3 x LM6000PC Gas Turbine, 3 x HRSG for this combined cycle plants and has a good reputation for its performance and reliability.

MCJ Energy Service Co., Ltd.

Combined Heat and Power (Cogeneration) system
Model LM2500PJ × 1 unit
Power output 20 MW × 1 unit
Fuel Natural gas
Start of operation April 2010
Site Tokai region, Japan

MCJ Energy Service Co., Ltd. implemented the energy system including LM2500PJ Combined Heat and Power (Cogeneration) system located at JSR Yokkaichi Plant in order to cut down on energy costs and to reduce CO2 emissions. This gas turbine power generation system has the capability to produce power output of 21.9 MW and process steam flow of 75 t/h.

LM2500 Combined Heat and Power (Cogeneration) system

IHI offered energy system including LM2500 Combined Heat and Power (Cogeneration) system (hereinafter referred to as LM2500CGS system) and steam generator facility to MCJ Energy Service Co., Ltd. for JSR Yokkaichi Plant.
MCJ Energy Service Co., Ltd. applied LM2500CGS system in order to cut down on energy cost and to reduce CO2 emission. Implementation of LM2500CGS system using natural gas enables to reduce the fuel comsuption which existing heavy oil-fired boiler consumes as same amount of steam energy came from LM2500CGS system.
Finally, MCJ Energy Service Co., Ltd. decided to select IHI gas turbine power plant system, because they had evaluated that LM2500CGS was high power output and high efficient, even more, less pollution and low CO2 emission.
LM2500CGS system was constituted of LM2500PJ gas turbine and HRSG(Heat Recovery Steam Generator) with reheating system, which had capability to produce and supply power output of 21.9 MW and process steam flow of 75 t/h.
Supplied electricity is used for power resource supplied to machine and reciprocating compressor, and steam is used for power resouce suppled to equipments on process steam line and existing steam turbines.

Model IM270 IHI-FLECS × 1 unit
Power output 2,500 kW
Supply steam flow 6.0 t/h
Steam turbine 75 kW
Fuel City gas
Site Kanto region, Japan
Start of operation 2006

Toyosu Energy Service Co., Ltd. (TESCO) is regional energy supplier that operates Combined Heat and Power (Cogeneration) system to supply electricity to Toyosu IHI Building and to supply thermal energy to Toyosu IHI Building and Campus of Shibaura Institute of Technology, located at Toyosu 3-chome area, in Tokyo.

Variable Combined Heat and Power (Cogeneration) system and utilization system of the steam pressure difference, Toyosu IHI Building

TESCO's Combined Heat and Power (Cogeneration) system is IM270-IHI-FLECS as variable heat and power system model, which utilizes excess steam effectively for power generation. Also, it realized further energy saving by converting the thermal energy at the pressure differential between inlet and outlet into mechanial energy with back pressure steam turbine in order to recovering the thermal energy of excess steam. The CHP (COGEN) system was constituted of steam heat source system (including smoke tube boilers and once-through boilers), thermal energy utilization system (including high efficient steam driven absorption refrigerator, ice thermal storage system using night-time electricity power and water thermal storage system using excess steam) and other high efficient equipments.
