On 10th September at 5:20 pm( JST ), the National Space Development Agency of Japan ( JAXA ) successfully launched the H-ⅡA Launch Vehicle No. 3 ( H-ⅡA F3 ) from Tanegashima Space Center, to the deep blue sky, in Kagoshima-ken, Japan. The two payloads, the Unmanned Space Experiment Recovery System ( USERS ) Spacecraft and the Data Relay Test Satellite ( DRTS ) loaded by the H-ⅡA F3 were successfully injected into their respective orbits.
The USERS is an experiment satellite developed by Institute for Unmanned Space Experiment Free Flyer ( USEF ).
Its missions are to conduct a super conductive materials processing experiment under micro-gravity environment and to make recover the experimented materials on the ground.
In May 2003, REM ( Re-entry Module ) loaded with the experimented materials will be separated from the body of USERS to re-entry to the atmosphere for recovery on the ocean near the Ogasawara Islands. IHI Aerospace Co., Ltd. is responsible for development and manufacture of the solid rocket boosters ( SRB-A )that are strapped to the right and left of the first stage main engine of the H-ⅡA, the pyrotechnics for the rocket separation, etc., and the REM, and contributed to success of the H-ⅡA F3.

IHI Aerospace Co., Ltd. is exhibiting the penetrator as an exhibitor for the 2002 Japan Earth and Planetary Science in the National Olympic Memorial Youth Center of Tokyo , which is being held from May 26 through 31,2002.
The penetrator is moon observation probe having the seismograph and the heat flux meter. It is dropped from LUNAR-A (Moon Observing Satellite) which goes around to the moon and rushes in on the surface of the moon.
It measures a shake, temperature, etc. of the moon's surface over about one year. In addition, the penetrator system is applicable to observing the volcano which becomes active and cannot be closely reached.
Research and development for dropping the observation equipment using a radio controlled helicopter is being conducted.
