Bridge was constructed, utilizing JICA ODA Loan, as railway bridge in parallel with existing Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge used as road and railway over Jamuna River in the central of Bangladesh. The opening of Bridge will enable to meet the increasing demand for rail transportation, so that the speed and weight restrictions previously stipulated on Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge can be improved, making it a valuable bridge that will contribute to the country future economic development. Bridge becomes a part of Trans-Asian Railway and will be used as important network connecting India. IIS-SMCC JV constructed WD2 (West) in this project.

IIS will continue to contribute to development of infrastructure in Bangladesh and other countries around the world by combining the experience gained through the construction of this Bridge and Japanese technological capabilities.
