IHI Infrastructure Systems Co., Ltd. was Awarded the 4th OCAJI Project Award

IHI Infrastructure Systems Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Sakai City, Osaka; President: Manabu Inoue; hereinafter “IIS”) is pleased to announce that Jamuna Rail Bridge Project Package-WD2, undertaken by IIS, has received the OCAJI Project Award. The awarding ceremony, organized by the Overseas Construction Association of Japan (OCAJI), was held at Tokyo Prince Hotel on January 27, 2026.
The OCAJI Project Award aims to increase the worldwide presence of Japanese construction industry and to contribute to the promotion of international activities by Japanese companies. The award recognizes outstanding overseas construction projects by the members of Overseas Construction Association of Japan and the Japan Federation of Construction Contractors.
With Bangladesh’s economic growth driving increased demand for rail transport, the Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge (serving as a combined road and rail crossing) has been playing a vital role. However, issues such as vibration and progressing concrete cracks led to speed and weight restrictions, and operational delays. Countermeasures became an urgent priority.
Through this project, financed by Japan’s ODA loan, a dedicated railway bridge was constructed 300 meters upstream of the existing bridge, to enhance safety and improve logistics efficiency. Weathering steel, a Japanese technology, was adopted to the superstructure to reduce life-cycle costs, eliminating the need for future repainting.
By combining the experience gained through the construction of this bridge and Japanese technological expertise, IIS will continue to contribute to the development of infrastructure in Bangladesh and other countries around the world.
