Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries, Co., Ltd.
 Ebara Corporation

Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.(IHI) and Ebara Corporation(Ebara), jointly announced today that they had agreed to start the study for future alliance and collaboration in the area of production and technology development concerning waste incineration and pump production.

The market for waste incinerating plant once booming when the new dioxin regulations were enacted has slowed down recently. The market is expected to come back again sooner or later after the current sluggish period. Further development of technology and cost-reduction will be required from the customers when the market comes back. Through cooperation, integration of their technology in waste incineration, gasification, melting and power generation, Ebara and IHI expect to develop waste incinerating plant technically outstanding and cost-competitive. They expect that the collaboration will enhance technology, improve efficiency in R&D, design and production. They will also discuss the future possible integration of R&D, design and production systems as a means to further promote their cooperative relationship.

In the pump market, their focus will be on the overseas market to cover the shrinking domestic market. Through using both their manufacturing facilities and testing facilities mutually and effectively, they plan to improve technology and cost competitiveness for better profitability.
