IHI E&C International Corporation Awarded FEED for Urea Project

16th January 2013 – IHI E&C International Corporation based in Houston, Texas, a wholly owned subsidiary of IHI Corporation headquartered in Tokyo, has been selected by Dakota Gasification Company (DGC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Basin Electric Power Cooperative of Bismarck, North Dakota, to perform a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study for a 1,100 - 2,200 short tons per day urea plant at its facility near Beulah, North Dakota.

Gary Loop, senior vice-president and chief operating officer at DGC, said this project is part of an on-going philosophy of developing and marketing co-products from the gasification process as a hedge against the volatility of natural gas prices. “Developing urea is another aspect of continuing this philosophy,” he said. “Our forecasts show there’s an increasing demand for the use of urea by farmers in the region, and we can easily add urea to our list of co-products that benefits the agricultural community.”

Glyn Rodgers, President of IHI E&C International Corporation said, “We are extremely pleased with this urea project award and look forward to working again with Dakota Gasification Company. This project award reinforces our emphasis on delivering a quality product.”
IHI E&C International Corporation
Dakota Gasification Company currently owns and operates a coal gasification facility at the same location where, in addition to other products, ammonia and carbon dioxide; raw materials for urea, are produced. The FEED phase of the project will start immediately and is expected to be completed by the 2nd quarter of 2013.
