Transfer of the marine crane business
IHI Corporation (Location: Koto Ward, Tokyo; President: Tsugio Mitsuoka; hereinafter “IHI”) has formulated its “Group Management Policy 2016,” and in order to strengthen its earnings base, it is newly incorporating portfolio management and making efforts to select and concentrate business. In order to accelerate these efforts, we have concluded a transfer agreement with Iknow Machinery Co., Ltd. (location: Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture; President: Shinji Nonaka; hereinafter “Iknow Machinery”) to transfer our marine deck crane business (deck cranes, mooring machines) to it.
IHI’s marine deck machinery business has earned the trust of customers by offering high quality and an expansive after-sales service network since delivering the first domestically produced unit in 1963. But in the marine machinery industry, despite the expected recovery in sales as demand for shipbuilding recovers, the situation in the market in recent years has been tough. Hence, in order to enhance competitiveness, we decided to transfer the business to Iknow Machinery, a marine machine manufacturer and a subsidiary of Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
The products that IHI designs, manufactures, and sells and after-sales services will be handed over to Iknow Machinery. And in the future, we will integrate the advanced design capabilities, manufacturing, quality and services, including hydraulic technology and electric technology that each company is good at, and continue to provide even more attractive products and services.
Note that IHI will continue to conduct its licensing business to China that it is implementing .
The transfer date is scheduled for May 1, 2017, after we complete procedures for this transfer by complying with the requirements of the Antimonopoly Act
