Launch of "Fast Power 40", 40MW class aero-derivative gas turbines packages - Accelerate initiatives for energy solutions aimed at eliminating CO2 and creating a recycling-oriented society -

IHI Corporation (Location: Koto-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Tsugio Mitsuoka; hereinafter "IHI") will introduce the originally designed aero-derivative gas turbine package named as "Fast Power 40" and propose new energy solution models as part of its efforts to a sustainable CO2 free and recycling-oriented society.

Currently, there is an accelerating trend not only in Japan but also around the world toward the realization of an eliminating CO2 and recycling-oriented society. In particular, the effective use of renewable energy, the efficient use of natural resources & depletable resources, and the conservation of such resources are the major themes in global.

On the other hand, it is also necessary to build a system for instantaneous and regional backup when energy cannot be obtained from solar & wind power, and to consider local production / consumption that complement large-scale networks.

In order to solve these issues, IHI started reviewing its gas turbine package, which had been delivered domestically and internationally. As the main engine for this package, IHI uses the typical proven high efficient aero-derivative LM6000(※1)gas turbine. This "Fast Power 40" makes full use of the aero-derivative gas turbine's features of rapid start-up and load-following together with lightweight and compact. It can;

- reduce the weight & external dimensions by approximately 50% compared to the conventional model & method,
- reduce the required space for installation,
- simplify installation work, and
- shorten the construction period.

As a result, it becomes easier to relocate the facilities after installation, allowing them to move in line with the business/operation plan and quickly introduce them to countries and regions where the demand for electricity is growing rapidly. Especially in the event of an emergency, such as a natural disaster, we can install Fast Power 40 quickly and it realizes prompt power supply.

Since aero-derivative gas turbine can reach the rated output within five minutes from the start-up, it can play a complementary and coordinated role in renewable energy such as solar and wind power.

In addition, because of dual-fuel application (both natural gas and liquid oil such as diesel oil, kerosene etc.), it can be installed without selecting the status of the fuel infrastructure. In addition, it employs a DLE (Dry Low Emission) combustor and air-cooling system that can achieve low NOx without using pure demineralized water. Therefore, it can generate power with minimal environmental impact even in locations and regions where water resources are inadequate.

The LM6000 gas turbine is one of the proven, most efficient power generators in the world. Therefore, natural gas and oil fuels, which are depletable resources, are used effectively, and CO2 emissions can be kept low.

IHI Group possesses technologies for power generation facilities and systems using gas turbines or gas reciprocating engines that boast high efficiency and excellent environmental performance. Based on these technologies, we are developing lifecycle businesses, including operation support and preventive maintenance services utilizing IoT, and contributing to the reduction of environmental impact and the stable supply of electricity.

Taking the opportunity of launch of "Fast Power 40", we will accelerate our efforts to eliminate CO2 and create a recycling-oriented society by combining energy management and resource businesses in other models.

※LM6000 is a gas engine derived from GE's CF6-80C2 jet engine, which is used in large passenger aircraft such as B747, for power generation. The high-efficiency gas turbine has the world's highest performance among the 40,000kW-class gas turbines currently in use. It has sold and delivered more than 1,200 units worldwide. The record of LM6000 delivered from IHI is 21 units in Japan and 61 units overseas (including spare units)* as of today.
