Japanese Unit of Top Global Classification Society Helps Validate Platform Tracing Ammonia Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Production through Usage
IHI Corporation announced today that it commissioned DNV Business Assurance Japan K.K. to help confirm that measurement techniques and data for the Ammonia Carbon Dioxide Traceability Platform are in line with international standards. That IHI platform records the carbon dioxide reduction footprint of ammonia across its value chain, from production through usage. DNV Business Assurance Japan is a local unit of world-leading classification society DNV.
IHI is developing technologies and collaborating with partners in Japan and abroad in driving to swiftly build a value chain to produce, ship, store, and use ammonia. It is vital to ensure the accuracy of measurement data at each stage, validate carbon footprint calculation techniques, and ensure transparent disclosure to demonstrate carbon dioxide emissions reductions from using ammonia and secure uptake for the platform.
DNV Business Assurance Japan inspected renewable energy power generation and hydrogen production facilities at the Soma IH Green Energy Center and ammonia synthesis, storage, gas turbine, and other facilities at the IHI Yokohama Works. It also spoke with relevant personnel and reviewed the consistency of IHI’s calculation methodology and findings with international standards and guidelines.
IHI will leverage knowledge from these results to keep enhancing the platform’s reliability. The company will keep developing the platform so anyone in the ammonia value chain can take part in it, sharing accurate and transparent information about carbon footprints. It will thereby help to swiftly commercialize ammonia and other carbon-neutral fuels while reducing environmental impacts.
