IHI Signs MoU with SpaceData Inc. to Drive New Business Creation through Satellite Data Utilization
- Accelerating Space Industry Innovation by Combining Satellite Constellations and Digital Twin Technology -

IHI Corporation(Head Office: Tokyo, President: Hiroshi Ide, “IHI”) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SpaceData Inc. (“SpaceData”, Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Katsuaki Sato) to collaborate on the utilization of satellite data and the creation of new businesses powered by these advanced technologies.

Guided by our corporate philosophy of “contributing to social progress through technology,” IHI leverages its core engineering and manufacturing expertise to advance the development of small satellite constellations. The constellation envisioned by IHI will comprise a diverse range of satellites equipped with optical sensors, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), VHF Data Exchange Systems (VDES; next-generation AIS), radio frequency (RF) sensors, infrared (IR) sensors, and hyperspectral imaging capabilities. This multi-sensor approach will enable the collection and provision of various types of data, supporting better situational awareness both on land and at sea.

SpaceData, meanwhile, is a technology startup dedicated to making space accessible to everyone. By merging space and AI technologies, the company creates new industries and social infrastructure. Utilizing digital twin technology to precisely recreate the Earth and space environments, SpaceData aims to build digital platforms that support the future of urban development, disaster prevention, and security. The company also develops operational foundations for space robots and space stations, working towards the realization of a space-based society.

Through this partnership, IHI and SpaceData aim to combine IHI’s diverse satellite data with SpaceData’s digital twin technologies, delivering competitive services tailored to customer needs and accelerating the societal integration of satellite data systems.

In addition, IHI Corporation has signed an agreement with ICEYE Oy, a global leader in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites based in Finland, to procure ICEYE's SAR satellites as part of its initiative to build an earth observation satellite constellation for security, public, and commercial applications.
In addition, IHI has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to collaborate on satellite constellation development with Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (UK), a developer and manufacturer of earth observation and ISR satellites (September 2025), and with Global Satellite Vu Ltd (UK), which specializes in the development and operation of small satellites equipped with thermal infrared (IR) sensors.

Through these efforts, IHI aims to accelerate the practical use of satellite data in society, create new value in the space sector, and contribute to the advancement of the industry.
