Strengthening measures to recruit global human resources aiming for corporate transformation
—Meeting held to exchange opinions with professors from seven major Indian universities
IHI is in the process of strengthening employment of diverse human resources to realize corporate transformation and become a company with sustainable high growth. As a part of this initiative, on August 4, IHI invited nine professors in career services departments of seven leading Indian universities, including Indian Institutes of Technology, to exchange opinions with Nobuhiko Kubota, Managing Executive Officer and General Manager of the Corporate Research & Development Division, and others.
The meeting was realized through the “India Japan Talent Bridge” Program, which is part of the “Co-creative Technical Human Resources Exchange Program to Strengthen Collaboration with the Global South” promoted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The meeting highlighted active discussions regarding how Indian students with high capabilities can utilize their specialties successfully at IHI. At i-muse, IHI Group’s corporate museum, visiting professors were introduced to IHI’s history and technologies. The visiting professors offered words of praise such as, “I learned how the manufacturing industry values technology and trust, and I can now envision starting the human resources exchange at an early stage. In order to deepen mutual understanding with students, I expect much from not only internships but also joint research projects with Indian universities.”

IHI organized a two-month internship program for students of Indian Institutes of Technology for the first time in FY2024, and welcomed three students who were selected from over 300 applicants. The internship included discussions with IHI’s engineers at IHI’s technology development locations. Moreover, with full cooperation from the Joint Research Center for Electric Architecture (jointly run by Akita University and Akita Prefectural University), the internship provided an interactive curriculum with companies, research institutes, multiple academic institutes such as Akita University, and high school students within the prefecture who are participating in the “electrification program” promoted by IHI. All three Indian students who participated in the internship are scheduled to become employees of IHI this fiscal year.
In order for IHI to maintain sustainable growth and technological advantage in the globally competitive environment, human resources who consistently pursue transformation are essential. Through initiatives to recruit employees from a variety of channels, IHI has employed diverse human resources who are leaders in corporate transformation. On the other hand, employing only from within Japan may become more and more difficult, and IHI intends to prepare a system for actively employing highly specialized foreign nationals.
To transform into a company that achieves sustainable high growth, IHI will promote human resources management, engage in acquiring, training and optimally placing human resources, create comfortable working environments, accelerate independent career building, respect diversity, and establish an organizational culture of taking on challenges and crossing borders.
