IHI and X-energy Sign Memorandum of Understanding
to Advance Manufacturing Collaboration
for High-Temperature Gas Reactor Technology
- Partnership on Main Power System Components to Support Large-Scale Deployment of Xe-100 Reactors –
IHI Corporation (“IHI”) has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at IHI Yokohama Works on March 13, 2026, with X-energy Reactor Company, LLC (“X-energy”), a U.S. based advanced nuclear technology developer headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, to explore and promote collaboration in high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) technology.

Under this MOU, the two companies will establish a cooperative framework to examine opportunities centered primarily on X-energy’s Xe-100 advanced reactor design. The collaboration will focus on the design, engineering, manufacturability, and supply chain development of Main Power System (MPS) pressure boundary components to support anticipated large-scale reactor deployment programs in the global markets.
Scope of Collaboration
The MOU provides a framework for discussions and information exchange related to the potential production of MPS Sets, including:
- Reactor Pressure Vessel
- Reactor Internals (e.g., core barrel)
- Steam Generator Pressure Vessel
- Steam Generator Internals
- Cross Vessel
