IHI and ST Engineering Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Explore Collaboration in the Nuclear Energy Sector
Cooperation toward Building and Strengthening a Global Supply Chain
On October 27, IHI signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with ST Engineering to explore potential collaboration aimed at building and strengthening the supply chain in the nuclear energy sector.
Under this MOU, IHI and ST Engineering will bring together their respective manufacturing technologies, digital capabilities, and project execution expertise to explore collaboration in areas including the manufacture of structures for nuclear facilities and the advancement of manufacturing processes through the use of AI and robotics. Building on IHI’s extensive experience in nuclear engineering and component manufacturing, and leveraging ST Engineering’s advanced engineering, automation and digital capabilities developed across complex, mission-critical industries, the two companies will explore how greater automation, digitalisation and AI can be applied to enhance quality, productivity and traceability in nuclear manufacturing. Through quality assurance, human resource development, technical exchanges, and other initiatives, the two companies will also seek to build and strengthen a sustainable nuclear supply chain and contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society.
IHI’s Initiatives and Future Outlook
IHI is strengthening its business foundations and expanding its supply capabilities in the clean energy sector, with the aim of contributing to the realization of a carbon-neutral society and enhancing energy security. As part of these efforts, this MOU will accelerate the exploration of technology development and supply chain resilience in the advanced nuclear energy sector. Drawing on the knowledge and experience it has cultivated in the nuclear field, IHI will continue contributing to the reliable, safe, and sustainable supply of energy.
