IHI Takes Part in UNDP Business and Human Rights Round Table
IHI director and Group ESG head Akihiro Seo took part in the United Nations Development Programme’s Round Table on Business and Human Rights (see note 1) in Tokyo on October 16 last year.
This event brought together executives from companies with strong commitments to human rights due diligence (note 2) practices with a view to accelerating their implementation by discussing human rights in Japan and around the globe. Mr. Seo presented IHI’s due diligence endeavors.

Representatives of IHI’s Human Resources Division have taken part in the B+HR (for business and human rights) Academy (note 3) since fiscal 2022 to learn systematically about human rights due diligence. The programme asked IHI to consider taking part in the round table in view of the company’s involvement in the academy.
At this gathering, domestic and international experts outlined business and human rights trends, with representatives from participating companies presenting their initiatives. Mr. Seo stated that, “As a company providing social infrastructure, IHI prioritizes business transitions that emphasize environmental sustainability and human rights. We consider it important to address human rights issues within our operations and harness opportunities like this discussion to gain more knowledge.”

The IHI Group participates extensively in external human rights initiatives as part of its commitment to due diligence in that area. It will continue to actively engage with external stakeholders to foster a corporate culture that respects human rights and encourage respect for those rights across all aspects of its operations.
