IHI Subsidiary Holds Wheelchair Basketball Event in Isesaki, Gunma Prefecture
IHI subsidiary Meisei Electric Co., Ltd., held a wheelchair basketball event at a gymnasium in Isesaki, Gunma Prefecture, on Sunday, November 19. That company’s headquarters is in that city. Employees and their families watched and met players from Japan Wheelchair Basketball Federation teams in what proved a success at fostering devotees of this sport. The federation’s executive director and players from the Gunma Magic and from ELFIN, which practices once a month at this facility, were at this event, which about 100 people attended.
The two teams put on an exhibition game and enabled people to try wheelchair basketball for themselves. The aggressive offense and defense tactics in the exhibition game thrilled onlookers, one of whom particularly wanted to see even more play. One person who tried wheelchair basketball on the day commented that it was a lot of fun. Another realized from the experience just how challenging it is to throw a ball using just the upper body muscles.
The IHI Group will continue to support wheelchair basketball through other events.
