Celebrating Pride Month with In-House Awareness Activities

In June, the IHI Group embraced Pride Month with a range of in-house educational activities aligned with global efforts to boost awareness about LGBTQ+ rights. The IHI Group designated 2024 as the start of intensive initiatives to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and has embedded it in the corporate culture. It has positioned Pride Month as vital to its efforts to foster positive workplaces for employees of any background or identity.

We set up a special website on our intranet bulletin board to enhance understanding of DEI and LGBTQ+ issues. This resource hub featured e-learning courses, practical work tools, related videos, and information about events that employees could enjoy after work or on days off. We curated content to engage employees and broaden their perspectives about LGBTQ+ issues.

We also showed support by displaying rainbow flags in the reception areas of our offices and Group companies in Japan and abroad. On June 27, around 300 IHI Group employees volunteered to wear rainbow bracelets to serve as allies for the cause of inclusivity for LGBTQ+ individuals in their workplaces.

The IHI Group has engaged in LGBTQ+ ally initiatives since fiscal 2018. We have enhanced understanding and support for LGBTQ+ people year by year by through ongoing endeavors. These have included providing e-learning for all domestic Group employees and providing information through internal bulletin boards. By the end of June 2024, more than 3,000 employees had declared themselves allies. In April 2024, 100 employees joined with their families and partners in marching in the Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2024 parade.

Our commitment to inclusivity extends to personnel policies, including to recognize same-sex partners as spouses for benefits and work programs. We also maintain a desk to provide consultation on sexual orientation and gender identity harassment.

The IHI Group will continue to create inclusive workplaces for all employees, including LGBTQ+ individuals, so they can thrive and contribute to corporate progress.
