The IHI Group Conducts Awareness Initiatives during “Environment Month”
Each year, the IHI Group marks World Environment Day on June 5 by celebrating “Environment Month”. Since 2013, this initiative has been central to our mission to raise environmental awareness among employees. For fiscal 2024, we launched a portal on our internal bulletin board, featuring three key initiatives to engage our workforce.
Environmental Quiz
We organized an interactive quiz accessible via smartphone to enhance Group employee understanding of environmental issues. The quiz posed five questions on topics such as climate change, biodiversity, water resource challenges, and waste management. A total of 2,554 employees participated. Feedback from participants highlighted the quiz’s success. One respondent, for example, shared, "The quiz prompted me to reassess my own environmental actions." Another said, "It spurred me to learn more about global environmental issues."
Green Program for Employee
We proudly support Decokatsu, the Ministry of the Environment’s national movement promoting sustainable, low-carbon lifestyles. In line with this, we introduced NTT Communications Corporation’s “Green Program for Employee” app to 38 volunteers from Group companies. These volunteers used the app to log daily eco-actions, such as taking the stairs instead of elevators and recycling paper. The app tracked the resulting carbon dioxide reductions, prompting participants to stay mindful of their environmental impact.
IHI Group has committed to achieving carbon neutrality across the entire value chain by 2050. By fiscal 2030, the goal is to reduce GHG (Scope 1 and 2) emissions - direct and indirect - from its business activities, including factory and offices, by half compared to 2019 levels, targeting 127,113 metric tons of CO2.
To reach this goal, employees must reduce CO2 emissions in their daily work. Through tools like this app, the company aims to encourage each employee to adopt eco-friendly actions.


In-House Publication on Carbon Neutrality Efforts
IHI Group publishes a monthly employee newsletter. The June 2024 issue highlighted our ongoing push to achieve carbon neutrality. Reducing Scope 3* emissions in the value chain is crucial. This issue urged employees to reflect on the greenhouse gas emissions linked to our products and services and think of ways to minimize them. It featured a message from the Group ESG officer, alongside an explanation of Scope 3 emissions, our current calculations, and ongoing reduction initiatives. Moving forward, IHI Group will continue to use the internal newsletter and other channels to provide employees with information on environmental initiatives, aligning everyone in our decarbonization efforts.

IHI has identified “climate change”, “conservation of the global environment”, and “circular economy” as environmental material issues. Through initiatives like “Environment Month” we will continue to raise employees’ environmental awareness, tackle these three key challenges, and promote our ESG-focused management.
