IHI Initiates Plastic Bottle Cap Recycling
Earlier in fiscal 2024, the IHI Group launched a program at its Toyosu headquarters to collect plastic bottle caps for recycling through a specialized recycling company. The collected caps are repurposed into recyclable plastic resources and a portion of the proceeds are donated to the certified NPO “Japan Committee, Vaccines for the World’s Children”, which uses the funds to purchase and distribute vaccines around the globe.
From April to June, headquarters promoted the campaign by placing posters in pantries on each floor, collecting 174 kilograms of plastic bottle caps. This was enough to fund 87 vaccine doses. This initiative has continued since July and will be sustained moving forward.

This initiative aligns with environmental footprint minimization efforts that are central to IHI Group’s ESG management approach. Examples include thorough waste separation and reducing plastic bottle and other waste (see note 1). While factory and production programs focus on reducing carbon dioxide emissions, office-based initiatives rely on all employees taking personal responsibility for lowering environmental impacts and contributing to progress.
The IHI Group will continue fostering a culture where every individual can take ownership of social contribution and environmental sustainability.
