Aomori Plant Takes Part in 18th Pacific Coastal Cleanup Operation
On September 7, 10 employees from IHI Group company Aomori Plant Co., Ltd. (APL), joined the 18th Pacific Coastal Cleanup, organized by Rokkasho Village in Aomori Prefecture. The initiative focused on cleaning a 500-meter stretch of coastline near Obuchi Fishing Port, close to the company’s headquarters. This year, 64 local businesses participated in the effort. APL has been participating in this event since its inception as part of its ongoing community contribution activities.

Participants spent the day picking up litter along the beach under clear skies. In recent years, marine litter has severely impacted ecosystems, and volunteers encountered more plastic waste than expected, including containers, nylon bags, broken nets, and ropes. They collected 4.8 metric tons of waste.

Employees who participated shared their thoughts, saying, “It was a great opportunity to feel that environmental protection was something close to me,” and “Even though this is a local beach, it was my first time walking along it.” The event not only raised awareness about environmental issues but also provided a meaningful opportunity to learn more about the local community.
APL remains committed to actively participating in community contribution activities, including cleanup efforts, as a company deeply rooted in the region.
