IHI Holds an Outreach Lecture on Ammonia at a School Near Toyosu Headquarters
On September 26 and 27, IHI employees conducted an outreach lecture at Ariake Nishi Gakuen (an integrated elementary and junior high school) in Koto Ward, Tokyo, conducting experiments with ammonia with 164 sixth grade students.
Ariake Nishi Gakuen invited IHI to lead these sessions as part of its open house, with many parents watching the proceedings intently. The company developed the curriculum, and dispatched their employees as instructors. After a lecture on the properties and uses of ammonia, students generated, cooled, burned, and dissolved ammonia in hands-on experiments. The employees also provided an overview of IHI's ammonia initiatives.

During the dissolution experiment, students cheered when ammonia vigorously reacted in water, causing it to spurt. For subsequent experiments, they eagerly gathered around the equipment. All experiments were conducted safely without accident.
Students shared their feedback such as, “It was fun to try various experiments” and “It was fascinating to see the color of the liquid change in the final experiment,” indicating that the event sparked their interest in science. Parents also observed the experiments with great interest.
The IHI Group is working on training employee instructors to further enhance the quality of the outreach lectures. Moving forward, IHI Group will continue to promote understanding of our group’s business activities and support developing the talent of the next generation through these outreach programs and other initiatives.
