IHI Holds a Lecture on “Introduction to Volunteering” for Its Group’s Employees
On January 20, 2025, the IHI group held a lecture covering the basics of volunteering for employees at the Head Office in Toyosu.
This lecture was created for those who have little to no experience in volunteering, in hopes of encouraging employees to voluntarily contribute to society, which will lead to raising the group’s value. The lecture was also streamed online, and a total of 109 IHI group employees participated.
During the first half of the lecture, Mr. Masayuki Nishijima from the Koto Ward Council of Social Welfare in the Koto Ward Volunteer and Community Contribution Activity Center, gave a lecture on “Introduction to Volunteering.” He made his explanations easy to understand, by using specific examples such as bringing up the meaning of the word “volunteer,” covering basic knowledge on how to be prepared for volunteer activities, as well as mentioning key points for performing volunteer work while working.
For the latter half of the lecture, Mr. Hidetaka Kasai a former employee of IHI Aerospace Co., Ltd. (IA) took over. For about 10 years since the time Mr. Kasai has been working at IA, he has been volunteering as a member of commentary at the Tomioka Silk Mill in Tomioka City, Gunma Prefecture, where the IA Head Office is located. During the lecture, he shared his valuable experiences, such as the reason he started volunteering, what left an impression on him, and how his experiences while volunteering helped him in his work.

The employees who participated in the lecture made comments such as, “For those who are interested in volunteering, the lecture helps them understand necessary information since it covers everything from preparing to become a volunteer and on how to start volunteering.” and “I realized that the perspective of being able to apply skills learned during volunteering to work, is an advantage for those who volunteer while working.” The event provided an opportunity for employees to have a concrete image of what it means to volunteer.
As a part of future efforts to catch employees' interests in volunteering, the IHI Group plans on posting information on volunteer opportunities on an internal portal website that employees can access.
IHI will continue to promote initiatives that capture the employees’ interest in taking part in volunteer activities, and remain committed to actively participating in community-based social contribution activities.
