Conferences for Mid-Career Hires Conducted at Toyosu IHI Building and Tsurugashima Aero-Engine Works
From December 19 to 20, 2024 and January 8 to 9, 2025, the IHI Group conducted two Conferences for Mid-Career Hires, open to mid-career recruits in the Aero Engine, Space & Defense Business Area.
The IHI Group has positioned the Aero Engine, Space & Defense Business Area as one of its growth businesses, and it has strategically hired over 100 new human resources from outside the Group. The event was held as an educational opportunity aimed at helping employees who joined the IHI Group mid-career to leverage their past knowledge and experience, thriving as human resources that help transform the Group. The first day of each conference was held at the Group's head office, the Toyosu IHI Building, and the second day was held at the Tsurugashima Aero-Engine Works, a civil aviation engine repair plant. A combined total of 85 people participated in the two conferences.
On the first day, the conference promoted communication between mid-career hires and provided opportunities not only for them to establish connections with each other but also to gain a deeper understanding of the culture of the IHI Group. Through lectures, presenters explained the IHI Group's business strategies and employee trends. This was followed by discussions about gaps that participants had felt between their expectations and their actual experiences upon entering IHI. Participants talked with each other about what attracted them to the IHI Group and areas they thought could do with improvement.

On the second day, held at the Tsurugashima Aero-Engine Works, participants were provided with an explanation of the business model of the civil aviation engine repair business and its future trends. They then took a tour of the plant. Participants watched with rapt attention as an actual engine was brought into the plant, disassembled, inspected, and reassembled. After the tour, conference participants took part in a round-table discussion with employees of the Production Engineering and Quality Control Departments, deepening their understanding of the engine repair business.


Reflecting on the conference, one participant said, "I learned about the future outlook of the company. It was highly informative." Another said "I was very happy with the conference, because I was able to make new connections with people in departments that I seldom work with and with other mid-career hires." We hope that the knowledge conference attendees gained and the networking connections they established with other attendees will foster smoother communication in their workplaces. The IHI Group will continue to examine potential conference and tour locations that meet the needs and objectives of mid-career hires, and we plan to continue periodically holding similar events in the future.
