IHI Holds Energy-Saving Workshops at Four Group Locations

In FY2024, the IHI Group held energy-saving workshops at four Group locations.
IHI Group aims to achieve carbon neutrality throughout its value chain by 2050. As part of achieving carbon neutrality, the Group has set the goal of “halving GHG (Scope 1 and 2) emissions in FY2030 compared to FY2019 levels.”
As one effort toward achieving this goal, we have held energy-saving workshops at Group plants and offices since FY2023. The workshops are intended to foster awareness and increase practical capabilities, thereby enabling energy management personnel to take a proactive role in energy-saving initiatives.
In FY2024, we held workshops at four locations: IHI Yokohama Works, Sakai Works of IHI Infrastructure Systems, Chitose Head Office of IHI Agri-Tech Corporation, and Soma Plant of IHI Castings. A total of 77 employees participated.

On February 14, 2025, three outside lecturers were invited to the workshop held at the Soma Plant of IHI Castings (ICC). This workshop was attended by 13 employees from ICC and 20 employees from IHI and other affiliated companies. Participants first gathered in a meeting room to listen to an overview of the plant, its equipment, and examples of energy-saving initiatives. They were then divided into three groups to go into the plant and observe the melting furnace, production air conditioner, and air compressor on site. Participants confirmed the operational status of the equipment assigned to each group and identified key points related to energy savings.
Afterwards, participants discussed measures for improvement with the lecturers and announced the results of their studies. Going forward, ICC plans to actually address the issues identified at the workshop. Examples include reviewing the heater temperature of the production air conditioner (dehumidifier) and reviewing the operating conditions of the air compressor.

Participants from IHI Group bases throughout Japan gathered at this workshop. They actively exchanged opinions, including examples of initiatives at each plant. Comments from participants indicated that the workshops successfully contributed to raising awareness toward energy conservation— “It was helpful to learn about high-level initiatives at ICC and improvement cases from other plants” and “The energy-saving advice provided by outside lecturers was invaluable.”

The IHI Group will continue to take measures to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 while educating its employees through programs such as energy-saving workshops.
