Employee Awareness Activities during Environment Month
The IHI Group designates June as Environment Month each year to coincide with World Environment Day on June 5. Since fiscal 2013, we have held awareness-raising activities for employees. In fiscal 2025, we launched a special website on our company intranet and carried out three activities.
Environmental quiz
To raise awareness of global environmental issues, we administered an environmental quiz for IHI Group employees. The quiz was accessible via computer or smartphone.
In fiscal 2025, we asked five questions related to IHI Group initiatives, focusing on the IHI Group’s material issues of countermeasures against climate change, conservation of the global environment, and creation of a circular economy. 2,324 employees took the quiz.
We received the following feedback from employees: “Through the quiz, I was able to research and learn about IHI Group initiatives.” “Now that I’ve learned environmental keywords through the quiz, I will be more conscious of them in my future actions.” These comments show that the quiz was successful in raising environmental awareness among employees.

The IHI Group calculates its Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions based on the GHG Protocol and guidelines established by the Ministry of the Environment.
Scope 3 emissions are divided into 15 categories. Category 11 (Use of Sold Products) accounts for the largest portion of emissions by the IHI Group.
True or False?
Answer: True
Introducing biodiversity conservation activities
Our monthly company newsletter distributed to employees typically features an environmental article in the June issue. For fiscal year 2025, the article introduced the theme of biodiversity.
In addition to explaining biodiversity, the article also discussed the IHI Group’s support for the 30by30 Alliance*. The Alliance aims to achieve nature positive, which is a global goal for biodiversity conservation and restoration. The article also introduced the Group’s efforts to be registered as a Nationally Certified Sustainably Managed Natural Site.
*Aims to effectively conserve at least 30% of the land and sea as healthy ecosystems by 2030.

Introduction to IHI Group’s GHG emissions and simple ways to reduce CO₂ in everyday life
To promote understanding by employees, we converted the IHI Group’s GHG emissions (Scope 1 and 2) into the equivalent number of average households (approx. 80,000) and electricity rates, and published the results on a special website. Additionally, with the aim of changing employee behavior, we also introduced specific examples of actions to reduce CO2 that can be implemented in the workplace, as well as the effect of those actions.
The IHI Group’s direct and indirect GHG emissions (Scope 1 and 2) from its business activities total approximately 200,000 tons per year. The IHI Group aims to cut GHG emissions (Scope 1 and 2) in half by fiscal 2030 compared to fiscal 2019 levels. To achieve this target, it is important for employees to be aware of GHG emissions, take ownership of diligent energy conservation efforts, and implement them in daily work. Feedback from employees who viewed the special website showed they are developing a sense of ownership. For example, “I learned for the first time that the IHI Group consumes an extremely large amount of electricity” and "I will make small, steady efforts at my workplace to reduce electricity consumption.”

The IHI Group has identified three material issues for the environment: countermeasures against climate change, creation of a circular economy, and conservation of the global environment. We are working to achieve this goal through our business activities, with the aim of reducing the environmental impact of the entire social system.
Going forward, we will continue to raise environmental awareness among our employees through initiatives such as Environment Month, and will work to resolve the three material issues and promote ESG management.
