IHI Yokohama Office Holds the IHI Monozukuri Class 2025
On July 19, the IHI Group held the IHI Monozukuri Class 2025 at its Yokohama Office. This class aims to nurture the next generation of talented human resources through STEAM Education* promoted by the IHI Group. Employees volunteers handled everything from planning to operation. This year, a total of 60 groups of elementary school students and their parents participated, together with 36 employees. The venue was filled with smiles and exclamations of delight.
*STEAM Education: An educational philosophy that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics to promote interdisciplinary learning in the sciences and mathematics and to foster creativity.
For this year's class, we prepared three interactive activities: plastic-bottle rockets, bath bombs, and string telephones. In the plastic-bottle rocket activity, children made their own colorful rockets and repeatedly launched them on the grass. "We want to launch the rockets even higher!" cheered the excited children. In the bath bomb activity, the children eagerly mixed citric acid and baking soda to create their own original bath bombs. Everyone was thrilled to see so many bubbles fizzing in the water. In the string telephone activity, the children experimented by changing the tension of the string and the number of participants. They cheerfully shared ideas on how to make the sound easier to hear.
"Making things ourselves is so much fun!" exclaimed the participating children. "We also want to try making things at home!" We also received positive feedback from parents, who were happy to see their children having so much fun. Parents also enjoyed working on a creative project together as a family. Employees enjoyed sharing the thrill of monozukuri with the children, and had fun engaging in activities that were different from their daily work.
The IHI Group will continue to create opportunities for children to immerse themselves in learning and to host enjoyable events where participants and employees can grow together.
