Energy-Saving Workshops Held at Two IHI Group Locations

The IHI Group has set a target of achieving carbon neutrality across its entire value chain by 2050. As part of this commitment, the Group aims to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2) by 50% by fiscal year 2030 compared to fiscal year 2019 levels.
As one of the initiatives to achieve this target, the Group has been conducting energy-saving workshops for factories and offices since fiscal year 2023. These workshops are designed to foster awareness of energy conservation and enhance practical skills, enabling employees responsible for energy management to take a more proactive role in implementing energy-saving measures.
In fiscal year 2025, the workshops were held at two locations: the IHI Aerospace headquarters and the IHI Turbo (ITJ) Shinmachi Plant, with a total of 46 employees participating. This report focuses on the workshop conducted at the ITJ Shinmachi Plant.

On January 16, 2026, the workshop at the ITJ Shinmachi Plant was held with two external instructors. A total of 18 participants attended, including nine employees from ITJ and nine from IHI and other affiliated companies. After receiving an overview of the plant, its equipment, and case studies of energy-saving initiatives, participants were divided into two groups and moved to on-site locations to observe the operational conditions of various equipment, including machining tools, washing machines, compressors, and air-conditioning systems, while identifying opportunities for energy savings.
Following the site observations, participants discussed potential measures to reduce energy consumption with the instructors and presented their findings. During the workshop, unnecessary automatic air blowing was identified in part of a machining line. In response, immediate improvements were initiated, including verifying whether the air blowing was truly unnecessary, optimizing blowing duration, and assessing the impact on both products and equipment. These efforts led to optimization within one month, and plans are in place to expand similar improvements to other production lines.

The workshop also included participants from nearby affiliated companies, providing a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas. In addition to promoting energy-saving activities at ITJ, the workshop offered insights for participants from other companies and helped raise awareness of energy conservation.
The IHI Group will continue to provide employee education through initiatives such as these workshops and will further advance its efforts toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
