IHI Representative Office, Soma Joined “Tomo-Kaji Fukushima” as a Partner Company and Held a Seminar

IHI Representative Office, Soma recently joined the “Tomo-Kaji Fukushima” initiative, organized by Fukushima Prefecture, as a partner company.

The “Tomo-Kaji Fukushima” initiative promotes the sharing of household chores regardless of gender. In Fukushima Prefecture, where the percentage of dual-income households exceeds the national average, challenges remain in balancing work and family life, and this initiative has been launched in response to those challenges. The IHI Group positions the active participation of diverse talent as one of its key management priorities and is advancing initiatives that encourage all employees to take ownership of DE&I (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion). As part of these efforts, IHI Representative Office, Soma has endorsed the philosophy of the “Tomo-Kaji Fukushima” initiative and joined as a partner company.

To help promote “tomo-kaji,” IHI Representative Office, Soma displayed posters and flyers related to the initiative throughout the site and held an internal seminar. A total of 34 participants from the IHI Group attended the “Tomo-Kaji Challenge Seminar,” which was held on January 21.

At the seminar, Mr. Tomoari Miki, Representative Director of the nonprofit organization tadaima!, delivered a lecture on the theme of “family careers.” Following the lecture, participants took part in individual reflection exercises and group discussions based on the content of the session. In the individual exercises, participants reflected on their own “housework type,” while in the group discussions, they exchanged views on everyday concerns related to household chores and childcare.

In the post-seminar survey, participants shared positive feedback such as, “It was a valuable opportunity to reflect on housework and family life,” and “I would like to improve communication with my partner.” There were also requests such as, “I hope more managers will take part,” and “I would like to see similar seminars continue on an ongoing basis,” indicating a highly positive response toward the promotion of tomo-kaji.

Through the ongoing promotion of tomo-kaji, IHI Representative Office, Soma will continue striving to create a workplace where all employees can achieve a fulfilling work-life balance and work with energy and motivation.
